“Rising Dusk” by Darolyn

This piece of artwork is acrylic on canvas and measures 8 X 8 inches. It was finished in March of 2009 along with "Falling Dusk".
This wrapped canvas includes my signature. You can see the textured background I created using a wide brush.
I was going with a more "geometric" look instead of the "organic" like tree I had previously completed. Both compliment each other. They could be bought as a set.

“Wispy Standing Dawn” by Darolyn

This piece of artwork is acrylic on canvas and is 20 X 16 inches. It was completed in the spring of 2009 along with "Straight Standing Dawn". My students loved this one. It is always nice to get feedback....I will miss that this year.
Gotta love the wrapped canvas...ready to hang. No frame needed! It does include my signature.
A closer view of the painting.
The Cobalt Blue is striking.
My favorite technique in creating my roses...using organic shapes to create layers of petals.
Instead of making leaves, I just curled them around into a spiral. My husband says they look "wispy".

“Rebirth From Failure” by Darolyn

This was an 8 X 8 inch failure at one time. I was not happy at the direction I was going and changed it. It was "officially" completed in 2009. It happens to be a favorite of my husband.
As always, it is on wrapped canvas...my favorite because it needs NO frame! It also includes my signature.
I started out working on an abstract piece of art using my black glue (Elmers glue with black acrylic paint). It just was not working for me. So, I completely painted the canvas black to "start over". What it did was create a cool texture. I love the pink and green on this black.
Up close shot of the textured background created with the black glue.
I added some polka dots for some interest.

“Falling Dusk” by Darolyn

This piece of artwork is acrylic on canvas and measures 8 X 8 inches. It was finished in March of 2009. I chose to do a "section" of the tree and not the whole tree.
My signature is always included for authentication. This is a piece completed on wrapped canvas.
I use this technique to create trees without leaves. My students love to make their trees look like "broccoli". I love to eat it. I just don't like to draw it!!!!!
We had just finished a lesson about trees in winter and how the leaves fall off. I live in Florida...So, we don't always have this problem here!

“Straight Standing Dawn” by Darolyn

This piece of artwork is acrylic on canvas and is 16 X 20 inches. It was completed in the spring of 2009.
Wrapped canvas with my signature. Love the wrapped canvas as it is "ready to hang". No frame needed.
Close up shot of white rose. I used organic shapes to create the "layers" of a rose.
The Cobalt Blue is very striking. It catches your attention.
Background color blended using a "cross-hatching" like technique using a wide brush.
Texture up close.

Flower landscape instead of the traditional ...in a vase.

"Swirling Hearts" by Darolyn

These pieces are sold as a set and are 8 X 8 inches each. Both pieces were completed around Valentines Day 2009. I guess you could say I was a little inspired by the day....

When painting these pieces, I was using a monochromatic color scheme. But decided they needed a little punch. So, I added the polka dots and swirls using black glue.
Wrapped canvas with color extended to create a "ready to hang" piece of art. All my art is signed by me.
Close up of polka dots. The dots were added by using the end of the paint brush. They were added to frame the heart.
Close up of the "swirly" technique used in painting the hearts. I used many layers of paint to enhance the look. Some of the paint has a bit of shimmer. I would let it dry in between coats.

When adding the paint, I used a stick to blend/texturize the layers.

"Roses Off the Sides" by Darolyn

This piece of artwork was completed in 2009 and is 8 X 8 inches on wrapped canvas.
The roses, stems and leaves were created using black glue for texture. My roses are drawn using organic shapes to give the impression of layers. Color was added using acrylic paint. The background acrylic is gold. It has a little bit of a shimmer.
Wrapped canvas. I really like continuing the design on the sides. It makes the artwork "ready to hang" without purchasing an expensive frame. All my work is signed.

Close up shot of the texture created in this piece. The background was painted with a swirling motion.
